Software Practical

"Evaluation of an algebraic multi-grid method"

Description

The aim of the project is to asses the algebraic multi-grid method in the AGMG Package. For a given set of test matrices, its performance shall be compared with UMFPACK or other iterative solvers.

The project is to be completed by a report and an oral presentation in the Simulation and Optimization group seminar.

Focus

  • Running AGMG in Matlab for given test matrices

The practical can serve as a preparation project for a Bachelor, Master, or Diplom thesis on optimization with parabolic partial differential equations.

Classification of the project

This project is suited for one or two students as a beginner's or advanced software practical. The demanded effort will be scaled accordingly.

Requirements

  • Basic numerical analysis (e.g., course Numerik 0).
  • Knowledge and some experience in programming with Matlab/GNU Octave
